Therapy with Ros Townsend

What you can expect  …

Our work will begin with me listening – really listening – to what has been going on for you and what has brought you to seek some support. Using the most up-to-date understanding, tools and techniques we will, together, formulate a plan for moving forward, and then work through it in a way, and at a pace, that is right for you as an individual.

The approach that I take draws on the best of CBT, person centred and solution focused therapy, set within a holistic understanding of what we need as human beings to lead emotionally healthy lives. It is exceptionally effective and most people I work with see significant progress in 4-8 sessions although others require only one or two sessions to achieve their required results. Some people with more complex difficulties may require significantly more. My intention is always to work with you to achieve the outcomes you want as effectively as possible, and at a pace that is right for you  – and then for you to be able to move on, with the tools and understanding to deal proactively with future challenges. If difficulties are very complex, or are accompanied by neurodivergence, a combination of specific therapeutic interventions and a coaching approach is often utilised, to help successfully navigate the ongoing challenges of daily life. All therapy sessions take place online, via a secure platform; if you’ve not considered online therapy before, and the many benefits it offers, click here to find out more.

Using the most up-to-date psychotherapeutic understanding and techniques, I will always strive to help you move forward with your life as swiftly and effectively as possible – but at a pace suited to your practical and therapeutic needs. There is no commitment to an expensive  ‘course’ of treatment, and you will decide with me at the end of each individual session whether you need to book another .

People are often apprehensive about therapy as they feel it may be a very painful and lengthy process, where they are encouraged to talk repeatedly about difficult feelings or events – or even to dig up memories that they would prefer not to have to revisit. I don’t work that way because the latest research shows that this is not the best way to help people move forward.

What I will do is help you to use your resources and skill sets to gain confidence in moving forward; if troubled by trauma I will help you to leave distressing events behind, where they belong, in the past.  During our work together you will also learn how to use different tools and techniques that give you back control over strong emotional responses and that allow you to think clearly and make good decisions regarding the shape of your future – tools that you will then also have to maintain your emotional health proactively once we have finished work together.

The highly effective approach to therapy that I take is known as The Human Givens approach, and you can read more about it here

What I Can Help With

Individuals

There are many conditions that I am asked for help with, but these are some of the most common:

Addiction … anxiety …depression …trauma … grief … neurodivergence … sleep… concentration issues … phobias…OCD…workplace stress…domestic abuse ….pain … anger

Work through any problems that you are experiencing in a safe, comfortable and confidential setting.

I have helped hundreds of people over the years to move forward from difficulties of every shape and size imaginable, and this experience informs all of my work, along with the genuine desire  to bring about the best outcomes for my clients, as swiftly and effectively as possible.

Build a better relationship, find ways to communicate effectively and learn how to meet your needs as individuals within a healthy couple.

Working with the best interests of both parties in mind, I regularly help couples to assess where there is room for change and improvement, to determine whether the strengths of a relationship can be effectively built on and, if so, support them to move forward from difficulties they face, together.  An initial couples session is often booked as an hour and a half appointment.
